When the LAPD set out to designate a new service pistol, they eventually settled on an optics-ready version of the FN 509. Now, you can get a unique version of this pistol that is specifically made for the civilian market. The FN 509 MRD FOS is a full-size optics ready pistol which is packed full of desirable features. Each pistol includes one of FN’s masterfully crafted cold hammer forged stainless steel barrels which is given a recessed target crown to ensure that the barrel is as durable it is accurate. The steel slide includes aggressive serrations at the front and rear, making it easier to chamber a round or perform press checks. Perhaps the biggest feature of the slide is the inclusion of an FN Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System which allows the user to attach a wide variety of popular red dot sights to the pistol. Additionally, the 509 MRD FOS comes complete with a set of iron sights which are raised so they will co-witness with most red dots. A fiber optic front sight provides the pistol with part of its name (Fiber Optic Sight), as well as giving the shooter a contrasting sight picture that really stands out while firing. The pistol ergonomics are outstanding with aggressive texturing, interchangeable backstraps for a personalized fit, and ambidextrous slide stop lever and magazine release which allow it to conform to any shooter.
